Image My Old Friend
My friend. How long have we known each other? Thirty-five years? More? Do you remember when we would ride our bikes for hours on long summer nights along trails, through endless suburbs, the cemetery and the car-less sleeping streets? I flashed back to those indelible memories last night. Thinking back to last night, it seems like it lasted forever, yet i know it passed all too quickly. Cooling air brushed my face as hot blood thundered hard through my veins as we ascended to the top of this great city. Passing though one neighbourhood park after another, we climbed, and climbed and climbed. From central park, on the border between the ‘burbs we watched the night sky for the anticipated passage of a comet between the crescent moon and Venus. It never appeared. Perhaps too much light from the city, perhaps we had the time wrong? This would be the one and only disappointment of the evening. Stealing ourselves for the long, long, decent to the river, we checked our supplies. One stop at the liquor store, minutes before they closed, and we are off. We slipped through the night on two-wheeled time machines. The distance passing beneath my wheels was not measured in miles, but in years as I felt the sights and sounds of grown-up troubles disappear in my wake. The gravity is selective, propelling us by the accumulated mass of youthful memory, leaving behind the clumsy burdens of age.

Link Cycling In Amsterdam
I know this is not exactly local cycling, but I want to share a bit of the great time we had in Amsterdam. What a great town! You can make it to almost anywhere in town in twenty minutes. great restaurants, pubs, museums, and (ahem) coffee shops! Not to mention how great the cycling is!
