Bonjour from Paris!
I'm here in Paris!
I arrived this morning (was that yesterday morning? tomorrow morning? the whole date/day/time thing is kinda funky) - so far I'm wiped but I'll be getting at the bikes tomorrow!
There's bikes everywhere here - I'd read online that biking in Paris was to be avoided - as far as I can tell whoever is saying that is nuts, this city seems super bike friendly, with a few notable exceptions... One cute little thing is apparently bikes don't have the right of way when cars are turning out of side streets even if the cars have a stop sign! Gotta watch that one.
I can't believe how many abandoned bikes there are everywhere though... Pretty much every block you'll find at least 2 or 3. Anywhere that has serious bike parking is usually about a third full of poor old dead bikes that will never be ridden again. I could easily roll around here and fill a sack of 3-speed hubs off of dead bikes!
More to come once I figure out the whole "finding a bike" thing. There's the Velib freeish bikes that are everywhere, but they're only good for short trips... Might try buying something and getting rid of it before we leave (or just leaving it locked up to some random bike rack somewhere like all the rest of them!!)
Have a good riding weekend!
