Fireworks Un-Cancelled!
Earlier this year HSBC announced that they would no longer be funding the Symphony of Lights here in Vancouver. Well the organizers pulled up the couch cushions and found some new sponsors!
The fireworks have been an annual cruiser event for me - the very first time I rode a bike with Rod's crew around to watch them was about 4 years ago now. I've lived in this city my whole life and it had never really occurred to me that the best way to get there was by going AROUND the park rather than just trying to get down to the fireworks through the West End!
I know the fireworks tends to be a bit controversial - there's a lot of noise, a lot of mess and a lot of drunken rowdiness but it's usually a darn good time anyhow. Nothing like watching a couple thousand boats race eachother under Lion's Gate on a desperate trip to get to the marina before the drunk guy with the 60-foot yacht who's going to take 45 minutes to get out of your way...
Love it or hate it, this is the 19th year for the Symphony of Fire and it seems like it's going to be sticking around for a while yet!
