Elgin, JC Higgins, J.C. Higgins, They're All Sears bikes, and all freaking awesome!! I love that the Firestone bikes are all the same frames too... It's too bad there isn't more information out there about these bikes as they totally kick ass. Yes, they're not quite as good quality as a Schwinn, but they're absolutely serviceable and personally I find they fit taller riders a bit better. One really could ask why AREN'T these bikes ruling the world about now?!?

Tuesday Fog Ride

I've been really busy working on the infrastructure side of the site lately and haven't had a chance to do any ride reports... but you better believe I've been out there!

A great week in cruising!!

Started this week on Tuesday - Amber and I met up with Dylan, Kendal and Mad Dog. We keep saying we want to do something different so we decided to tackle this side of town.

We'd met up just on the inside of False Creek, a different stopping spot. Rode along from there over to the base of the Cambie street bridge where Amber got this neat abstract...

Rode along False Creek over to the land bridge across 2nd/6th/4th up into the Fairview area. Hauled the bikes up a couple blocks on foot (well, except Mad Dog of course) and then rode up through the middle of the hospital. From there it's a fairly short hop over to the Crescent at about 22nd... The fog was pretty thick up above 12th or so making for a really neat night!

The Crescent is a fun place to take people just about any time - the roads are pretty much deserted and there's lots of huge houses and things to look at. The fog just makes things more interesting. Once we got to the crescent itself (strange they call it a crescent when it is in fact a complete circle) we rode around a bit and then popped in to the park in the middle.

Between the fog and the trees you pretty much loose your bearings in there pretty fast. The good thing is you can only go so far before you hit a main street so it's not like you can really get lost. We rode around up there for quite a bit, crossed Granville and kept on going.

The roads in there are all outside of the Vancouver street grid plus the landscape is somewhat rolling. Makes it a little tricky to know exactly where you're going but Amber and I roll around up there from time to time. Found our way along anyhow.

Got over towards Arbutus and 27th then cruised down towards Prince of Wales high school . That's a nice roll as it's mostly down hill. There's one big hill coming down out of the Crescent at 27th, that was a good one. Coaster brakes cooking at the bottom.

Popped over to Valley Drive and went straight North towards 10th avenue. 10th is a good cross town route East of Macdonald, takes you pretty much as far east as you want to go. Went as far as Burrard - the west end crew were taking off for home there so we said goodbye in a parking lot at 10th and Burrard. Amber and I rode home, good and tired from that one!
