Friday February 10th
Despite the attempts at rain we had a great ride!
Sans-camera last night... oops. You'll just have to use your imagination!
I was surprised we had such a good turnout... Pretty much everyone was sending me "negatory" replies... I wasn't even sure I was going to go out myself but David's friend (who is also named David) was in town and had been hearing about us riding. We have a few extra bikes so we got him riding the Kustom Kruiser and rolled out the door. I knew Mad Dog would be there but I really wasn't expecting anyone else.
Pulled up at the roundabout to find Danu, Mad Dog, Michael and John... Justis rolled in shortly thereafter - there were 10 of us all told making for a good group!
Started out and rode to the gun... We got rolling a little late (8:40 or so) but that's plenty of time to get to the gun. It's really only 7 or 8 minutes from the roundabout to the gun for anyone who's keeping track.
Rolled on from there over to the water park. Stopped there for a bit as the rain had started ever so slightly. No washroom access unfortunately but a good little chill spot nonetheless.
We wanted to try out the trail up to Beaver Lake so we cruised over that way. Unfortunately the trail is really trashed - we hiked over one tree, got to another one that was a bit much to haul bikes over and decided to call it quits for that. Did an about face and got ourselves out of there again.
Cruised as far as we could go along the SeaWall towards Lion's Gate. The North Shore crew popped up to the road there to catch Lion's Gate over to the other side and the rest of us headed back the other way.
We got to the water park again and cranked our way up to the war memorial. Rolled down the bridge towards the roundabout and popped through the other side, stopped for a break by the lagoon to see the swans for a bit. The rain was coming down ever so lightly again at that point - it was warm though so not a big deal. More like a gentle spray than rain.
Next stop was a washroom break for Amber. Crossed Denman and popped up to the McDonalds on Davie. After that quick stop Mad Dog lead us through some nice local routes until we got down to Pacifc. Crossed back down to the SeaWall there and rode towards Second Beach. The rain was done for a while again at that point, still nice and warm.
Stopped for a bit at one of our usual places between Second and Third beaches. Things were clearing up a bit - I could see starts popping through the clouds and the rain was pretty much done. Excellent.
Rode from there right to the fences before Siawash Rock. For whatever reason it's always a few degrees warmer there, even at this time of year. Chatted with a few different people that were walking the trail, good times.
Headed back towards the West End - Justis and John took off there as it was starting to get late. Amber, David, David 2, Mad Dog and myself kept it going over to the Burrard Bridge. Rain was coming down again by that point, a bit harder than it had been all night so the bridge was a good covered stop to catch our breath. From there we went to the woods by the Casino to close it down. Rain wasn't really letting up but it wasn't hard rain either. Still nice and warm too... Said good bye to Mad Dog then hauled our bikes up the hill again to home.
Got here about 1:15... called for pizza... passed out on the couch until 2:00 or so when the pizza guy got here and finished the night off with a few slices and then straight to bed. Awesome. That's what it's all about!
