Elgin, JC Higgins, J.C. Higgins, They're All Sears bikes, and all freaking awesome!! I love that the Firestone bikes are all the same frames too... It's too bad there isn't more information out there about these bikes as they totally kick ass. Yes, they're not quite as good quality as a Schwinn, but they're absolutely serviceable and personally I find they fit taller riders a bit better. One really could ask why AREN'T these bikes ruling the world about now?!?

Mad Dog's 10th Anniversary Ride

Now THAT was a hell of a ride...

Amazing amazing amazing... I don't know if I've ever been on such a good ride, short of maybe my first-ever cruiser ride... I've got to hand it to Mad Dog, that was an insanely good route and a great day. As always I've got a few more photos than I actually included in the blog posting over here

Meetup was at noon, Patterson SkyTrain station. In case you don't know bikes are more than welcome on SkyTrain - we actually found it easier to get from our place (near City Hall) to Patterson than it is to get over to the roundabout at Stanley Park. Once you're at a SkyTrain station it's a pretty quick ride to Patterson.

Weather was absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly warm but not too hot, couldn't have asked for a better day. After we set off we headed over to Reverend Cycles - Reverend is right on the SkyTrain path at 4853 Imperial Street - a lot of people don't know about Rick's shop so I thought I'd throw up a couple pics of the store:

Definitely worth checking out! We walked out of there with a new set of grips on David's bike, Charles with a new shirt and a couple small things taken care of in the bike repair department. Good times.

We headed back along the SkyTrain route over to a new park near Edmonds station. The park totally isn't finished yet - thus I have dubbed it 'Park In Progress'. It's the big dirt pile here on Google Maps

There's a neat adult-ish sized zipline over at one side:

Serge and I both gave that a shot - there was a kid and his dad playing on it so we didn't want to get too in their space. Oh, and we also discovered that Serge is a swinger!

Anyhow we chilled there at the park for a bit - btw the ride from Reverend down to that park was REALLY nice - pretty much all downhill save the odd little climb. The path is pretty empty too, not a lot of traffic to fight with which is a welcome change from the seawall we all know and love.

Little offroad practice area in the park:

We headed back on the trail after a while... I get a little lost as to exactly what route we took at this point but we ended up at Moody Park in New Westminister. Here's a little camera phone pic I snapped en-route:

Moody Park was pretty good. There's a bit water park there - great for cooling off. A couple of us went and had a quick spray. Good times. We chilled in the shade for a while before we decided we had to have food...

Food... Food food food... where to find bike-compatible food. As we all know bike-compatible = pub if at all possible. We found the Brooklyn Pub and Grill

Check out the view!

Of course New West is at the bottom of a bigass hill and I wasn't about to ride back up it. SkyTrain to the rescue again! We took the train back up to Royal Oak station and hopped off there...

Yeah... 2 bikes per car... or 5, whatever fits...

By that point I was running out of space and battery on my camera so I don't have too many more pictures but we headed down the SkyTrain path all the way back in to Vancouver... Serge took off somewhere around Nanimo so we bid him farewell. Swung past Trout Lake, cut over the railyards at Terminal and hit up the Cambie for a brief stop. From there we went down to Coal Harbour and found this floating dock where we stopped for a while...

Lemme tell you, after a day of riding your bike and having more than a few beers I dunno why we decided to choose a floating platform rolling in the waves... I guess it somehow just felt 'natural'... hehehehe...

You'd think that would be the end but we flew through the park and into the West End. Finished up over at the beach concessions and broke up from there. Amber, David and I jetted at around 20 after 8 to catch all you can eat Indian back up on Broadway. We went home feeling tired, full and happy. I swear this weekend lasted a whole week - Friday and Sunday, two terrific rides. What more could anyone ask for?!?
