Elgin, JC Higgins, J.C. Higgins, They're All Sears bikes, and all freaking awesome!! I love that the Firestone bikes are all the same frames too... It's too bad there isn't more information out there about these bikes as they totally kick ass. Yes, they're not quite as good quality as a Schwinn, but they're absolutely serviceable and personally I find they fit taller riders a bit better. One really could ask why AREN'T these bikes ruling the world about now?!?

Post New-Years Bash

Tuesday decided at the last minute to turn in to a perfect cruising day. We got a crew together and got the bikes on the road!

AWESOME weather on Tuesday... Mostly clear and the temperature was hovering around 8-9 degrees - we were having more of a problem keeping cool than anything!

Nice turnout for a total spur-of-the-moment ride - 6 of us were out which given it was only a day after New Years plus the torrential downpour in the morning is pretty awesome. Makes me REALLY excited to get towards springtime again and start seeing more bikes out and about.

As I mentioned last time the park is still pretty messed up. We've headed up over the top on the last couple of rides and then doing a reverse SeaWall from the water park back. There's not really much further you can go from the water park towards the bridge before you hit the barriers - once we do some scouting I'm hoping to find the trails around Beaver Lake still intact, that probably won't be for a bit though. Considering how much tree stuff is still all over the place it's pretty obvious nobody will have cleared much in there yet. Washrooms at the water park have still been open the last couple of times at around 8:30 so it makes a good girl stop...

Once we were done there we figured we'd try and catch the gun... We were only a couple of minutes off but what the hell, why not eh? We flew over that way and cut across the park by the totem poles just to find out that the gun was a dud! The klaxon went, the red light started flashing but when the "BANG" was supposed to happen all we got was the lights coming back on around the gun. WTF? I've never seen that happen before, the only thing I can think of was the crazy rain in the morning. Either the thing didn't get loaded or it was too full of water to go off! Oh well, we always have our video to watch...

From the gun we rode a reverse SeaWall back past the Roundabout towards the south side of the park. We went around the SeaWall till a rest stop a bit before third beach where Amber did a bunch of shots of Lou's bike. Sweet...

En route we hit a full on RIVER flowing over the SeaWall though - in dryer weather we've been cruising by and seeing a few pylons with CAUTION tape on them, no idea why they were there. This time when we got there the water had to be half a foot deep by the inside edge of the path. The pedestrian path wasn't TOO bad, only a couple of inches there. Did I mention I'm riding my Felt with its stubby fenders right now since I broke a spoke on my Manhattan? Oh well, at least I HAD fenders at all...
From there it was a pretty normal ride back in the direction of Science World. We stopped under the christmas lights at the big tree in the West End for a bit, plus stopped for a while under the Burrard bridge. There's some new Videos posted of Mad Dog and Charles pulling some skids - with all the dampness everywhere it wasn't the best conditions for getting a really good squeal but Mad Dog pulls it off anyhow, as usual.

Until next time!
