Right Back At It
Tail end of this week turned in to a nice big ridefest... Awesome!
So after last Friday I didn't have a lot of time to get out and ride... Busy with work, busy with home, you know the drill. Finally Wednesday things turned around - weather was looking great, fired off a text to see who was up for it and out we went!
Had Dylan, Kendal, Amber, Joe, Jaimie, Danu, Michael and myself which means we can go anywhere... Hills it is! Headed out East from Science World up Union and kind of looped around the hill there till we got to the peak of Lakewood. That's a really neat spot - I'm sure there's ways to avoid climbing up there as it's downhill in all 4 directions but it's totally worth it. Great views and best of all Lakewood is a huge downhill rip with stop signs at all the cross streets. This time the light at Broadway was even with us so we kept ripping right on through all the way till 12th before we finally had to stop.
Got over to Trout Lake from there and chilled until the mosquitos started getting a little too thick. Did a crosstown route from there eventually dropping down to False Creek and out to Kits as our final destination. Still the last bit of colour in the sky - relaxed on the beach and saw the nice dusting of red on the clouds as the final bits of sun slipped away.
Thursday turned out to be an epic ride... We meet up at Science World again and then headed to Trout Lake... From there though we did the BC Parkway trail up the SkyTrain route out to Burnaby. That's a wicked uphill climb - by the top I was feeling pretty much dead. We stopped by Swanguard Stadium for a while to relax and then kept on the Parkway trail down in to New West. It's a really, really REALLY fun hill down from there, you barely need to turn your pedals at all. Anyhow eventually got to New West and rode the river for a bit there. There's a flood watch going right now so we had a big pile of sandbags to haul our bikes over but hey, why not...
Got to New West station and threw the bikes on the train. Jaime headed for home but Michael, Mad Dog and I got off at Patterson and rode back in to Vancouver. Now THAT's a ride!
Friday was thankfully a bit more tame... We wanted our final destination to be the park but didn't want to start out there, so we headed East to Crab Park and then kept going East along Franklin or whatever it's called there. Crossed South towards the Strathcona Oval and chilled there for a bit - lots of people running laps and generally having a good time.
Headed back towards Science World from there but made a pit stop at the Pat Pub first for off sales. Next was Rocky Point - I discovered the wonderful world of the snack bar over at the Casino! Got a pile of food to go and headed back over to the point to share with my lovely lady.
We ripped pretty much straight out to the park from there towards third beach. Mmmm... smokies... :D Most excellent... Timing worked out really good again this week so we got there without anyone really having to stress too much about taking off.
Our return trip had one interesting little snag... Just 4 of us at that point ripping along when some guy dressed all in black steps out in front of us... Oh oh, crazy guy on the seawall, keep on going. Realize as I'm flying by that he's a cop and was asking us to stop. Crap... Well I personally was at the point of no return, the others were ahead of me and already passed so I kept going. Amber wasn't so lucky though - he grabbed the sissy bar on her Cheetah tossing her into her handlebars. Great job buddy.
Turns out the cops were just looking for info on a fight that happened at Second Beach. Well nearly tossing someone on the ground to ask them a question is a bit much! Anyhow he apologized to Amber for the incident so we left everything on a good note but the Cheetah now has a bit more lean back on its sissy bar! Looks pretty good actually, we figure we'll leave it that way and give it a new nickname - Cop Dodger!
