Elgin, JC Higgins, J.C. Higgins, They're All Sears bikes, and all freaking awesome!! I love that the Firestone bikes are all the same frames too... It's too bad there isn't more information out there about these bikes as they totally kick ass. Yes, they're not quite as good quality as a Schwinn, but they're absolutely serviceable and personally I find they fit taller riders a bit better. One really could ask why AREN'T these bikes ruling the world about now?!?

Thursday Surrey Ride!

A big Hello! to our Surrey Brothers!

Oh, what a night...

Gave my bike a good wash at home before I rolled out - last Friday really didn't help in that regard what with the dumping rain and all. Looking at it standing in my living room I can barely tell but hey, it's the thought that counts.

SkyTrain Fun

So got down to Main Street SkyTrain station - there were a gazillion people on the platform plus a half dozen bikes or so. Watched about 3 or 4 full trains roll past before I gave up and headed back to Burrard.

Should have just stayed on till Waterfront - I ended up having to use the elevator to get down to the lower platform which ended up burning up a lot of time. At Waterfront I could have just walked across the platform.

Anyhow, got on the train - by the time we passed Main again it was kinda packed. Some of the bikes I was in line behind were still waiting at Main on the flip side so heading west was totally a good idea.

Eventually got all the way out to King George. End of the line!! Don, Mad Dog and Chris were waiting for me just outside the station - headed up the shoulder to the meet up spot to get things rolling.

Meet Up

Good sized crew! Lots of faces I've ridden with in Vancouver before, heeeeyyyaaaaaalll!

Hopped on and headed up the road a ways - you'll have to check out Dirty Don's blog for the exact whereabouts, I honestly have no idea where we were most of the night. Had a little bit of road riding but the group was big enough to make it happen. Got over in to the woods, flew up a trail and found our first stop.

First Stop

Chilled next to the lake for a while - LOTS of people out fishing and generally enjoying themselves. Just as much a park as Stanley Park - the lake is close to the size of Beaver Lake.

Rode a bunch more trails from there - had one not so fun highway crossing before stop #2... From there it was off to Donair Affair.

Donair Affair
Joe, Charles and I ended up getting a little off track on the way - suddenly looked up and went "Hey, so who exactly are we following?" - Look behind us, nobody. Look ahead of us, nobody. Crap. Here we are lost in Surrey...

Good thing was the park we'd been riding through had roads all around it - we knew pretty much where everyone was going so we improvised and found our way. Dinner time!!!

We made a beer store run from there - HUGE liquor store, cars rolling in and checking us out. Good times... Really friendly response to us out there, a bit of a surprise actually considering how car-focused everything seems to be. I guess as long as we don't get in anyone's way we're all good.

Kept on riding into another park - like I said I don't really know exactly where we were. Rode on, stopped here and there, awesome time. The Surrey crew rocks!! I'll totally be back for more...

Started getting late and we needed to head back towards the SkyTrain. There's an awesome trail under the power lines - looooong downhill, super smooth paved path and nobody around. The whole city is lying out there ahead of you, too cool.

Rolled on in to Dirty Don's place for a quick break before we headed to the SkyTrain. Getting just past 12:00 by this point, kinda cutting things close. Don's got this crazy massage chair - you hit the button and it gives you a 15 minute thorough cycle. Well, after the 5th or 6th time I'd hit that button we realized SkyTrain wasn't going to happen. Mad Dog, Chris and I were in it for the long haul... GIT R DONE!

Patello BridgeRolled down towards Scott Road and started the climb up the Patello bridge. That's one nasty mother - the climb up it is hard core. Only good thing is it comes at the end of a lot of downhill so you're pretty fresh when you go to take it. It was about 1:30 by this point, awesome.

Not really anywhere to stop until you get to the crest - it feels like if you do stop you ain't going to get going again. Momentum is your friend!! (So's my Nexus 7 speed!!)

Just had a 2 minute break on the bridge - not really the best place to be hanging out for too long. Rolled on down the other side and in to New West.

Well, there's no easy way around it - you're in New West and there's a big freaking hill in front of you. SkyTrain is obviously not an option this time around so what to do - last time I got dumped in New West I took the 7-11 trail on up. It was a LONG haul and honestly not the most fun. Mad Dog shared his secrets and we hike-a-biked straight on up over the hill. Easier to just get it over and done with rather than drawing it out forever.

Burnaby Here We Come!Eventually got to the top - here's the boundary between New West and Burnaby. Home is nearly in sight!  Well, not so much but at least it's not uphill anymore...

Rode over to the SkyTrain again, on past Reverend Cycles (hi Rick!) and cruised past Metrotown.  Once we passed Patterson SkyTrain station and the park there Mad Dog and Chris kept following the line on down.  I wasn't interested in loosing any of that precious precious altitude so I kept on Kingsway for a while before taking off in to the side streets.

Basically rode 33rd or so the rest of the way home before dropping down past Riley Park and finishing 'er off.  3:30 on the dot when I walked in the door, that's one hell of a ride!

Yeah, I'm down for another Surrey ride... Hopefully NOT when I'm working the next day.  That was great - good times, a great crew out there.  Hope you guys are checking out Vancruisers!  The site is all about the ENTIRE area, not just us out in Van proper so all you cruisers out there in the rest of the GVRD come join up and let us know when you ride!
