Elgin, JC Higgins, J.C. Higgins, They're All Sears bikes, and all freaking awesome!! I love that the Firestone bikes are all the same frames too... It's too bad there isn't more information out there about these bikes as they totally kick ass. Yes, they're not quite as good quality as a Schwinn, but they're absolutely serviceable and personally I find they fit taller riders a bit better. One really could ask why AREN'T these bikes ruling the world about now?!?

Will this rain EVER stop?!?

At this time of year when you see that little break in the weather you RUN for your bike!!

Yeah, this sucks... Here we are, Friday again and yet another pouring rain day.  Weather forecast says "chance of sunny breaks" in the afternoon, but even if that happens apparently it'll still be raining... BAH!!  I have managed to get out a couple of times for some mostly rain-free riding, but it's been like an hour or two of outside time.  Starting to think we're going to need to do something like this:

AquaBike

I'd love to say that all this is giving me time to get lots done on my bikes, but fact is they've all been sitting and waiting for me to "find some time"... :(  There's definitely chores to be done... My '49 Firestone siezed up its New Departure towards the end of the season - I've got a Bendix waiting to go in.  My '63ish Firestone rider is running GREAT but I want to upgrade its drivetrain and make it in to my 'commuter' bike - thinking a nice drum front hub and a 3 or 5 speed rear.  Kinda on hold right now though as it seems EVERYONE is out of stock of all the Sturmey stuff and they've got the only front drum brake out there right now.  (Shimano has their roller brake but it's ugly)

Last night we saw a group of about 20 riders in full rain gear with their flashy flashy lights riding up through our neighbourhood.  I guess it all really comes down to "what are you looking for" on your rides?  I do like the occasional rain ride, you know the ones where we go out, totally unprepared and end up completely SOAKED to the bone.  But generally speaking I'll save that for double digit temperatures.  This "5 degrees and pouring" stuff just isn't fun.  Another couple weeks of it though and I have a feeling I'll be out there anyhow!
