200 km in 2 days

It all began with an invite to something new, I love "new" stuff, new ideas, new challenges etc.

Well I was invited to ride for the BC Lung association with a few friends, had to fundraise some

cash first, that was easier than I thought and I raised over $1000.00 but now had to do the ride.

Over 400 participants all on pretty fast 18-21 speed bikes, me I ride a GIGI by Electra and didn't want

to use someone else's bike as it would be like doing a marathon in someone else's shoes (duh)  The

ride was from South Surrey to Cultus Lake (first day) and back the next....tons of peddalling but lots

of cheers and support for me and this heavy bike, I did it!! Never have ridden that far before and I

had a great time, rode a total of 14 hours in 2 days and we were all treated like royalty.

SO FUN, fed so well, looked after so well I cannot begin to describe what a great time this event

was.  Want to do it next year with a bigger team and maybe some more folks will ride their

cruisers with me?  I am from the vancouver island and ride about 80% of the time, got my wet

gear at MEC recently so i can keep going thru the monsoons, fun is out there...kitty

Too bad I don't know how to add my finish photo from the ride, this is all new to me this blog thing., hope it makes sense  K

Wow, that sounds like a great ride!! I'm pretty sure we could scratch up a few cruisers for a ride like that (I'd be in for sure)

I can't even begin to tell you how fun this ride was and how well organized. They really make you feel like a superstar at the 25 breaks and really do any care necessary IE medical, cycle repair or adjustment, loo breaks and food and drinks. A real good time was had by all. I didn' think that much about the fact I was on a cruiser as it is just a bike and peddle hard enough and you get there right? The seat I have is so comfy and classy but after 5 hours felt like a 2 x 4 (everyone suffered in that area) I couldn't figure out where the icons were for photos but thats ok...not that big of a deal and I don't have much computer patience...take care and keep this ride in mind for next sept. I think a cruiser team would be a gas...

Go electras!

WOW, that sounds great. I worked my butt off to complete each day but didn't even come after dark and that was my goal. Well looked after all day and fed like kings and queens. Your girlfriend will love this ride, so social too. Next month is the wind up thank you dinner in vancouver and I can't wait to see everyone again. Really memorable. Good luck with making that bike, how cool is that? I mostly ride alone here in Chemainus, have one friend with a cruiser but she doesn't give it much thought. I try to ride regardless of weather as it is my transport other than begging rides lately. Oh well. Take care and thanks for the note. I will post info about the ride in the spring when the lung ass. contacts me about the next ride ok? ta for now Kitty

sounds good

Hey nice to know folks are all in the same game wanting to ride more. This rainfall is a detterent as it is hard to see when you ride thru the rain but I still manage to get out to work on my bike as I don't have a small car anymore and walking seems so slow after cycling everywhere for months.
We have a windup party coming up in Nov. for the fundraiser I was in, what a well coordinated event. Makes you feel like you "belong" to something bigger. Do you get Momentum magazine where you are? I always get inspired from reading that and want to ride more.
Take care and have fun while theres fun to be had
