What a great year for cruising!
My year of cruisin'
What a crazy year! It's been a whole year since the winter national that got me hooked on cruising! Since last year, I've acquired 6 bikes, sold two, and caught the vintage bug as well. I have met some amazing people, rode like crazy, crashed a few times(!) and had my share of breakdowns, but I've always managed to come back. I am totally hooked.
Some of the highlights of the year were:
- FRIDAY RIDES! So much fun, good times!
- Creation of the Heavy Pedal Wednesday
- Rod's rides, on the Wednesdays and some of the big ones like,
- The Summer Solstice Ride, and the Winter National, and the little 50 and the little 100, not to mention Beverly's Dial a Do WIG ride! What a blast!
SO anyway...
I hope to see you on the seawall some time soon! Have an awesome Holiday Season!
Cheers and Ride on!

Seems to be a lot of this going around...
... it's called the vintage bike bug! I've got it bad.
Bryn, Danu, Charles, Joe, and of course Neil and Jason all have them, so why not me?
I've acquired a new-to-me bike made in the 1930's from a company called Elgin. Well, i actually acquired it from Danu! Good stuff.
Last night a few of us went out on a Vintage Only ride to check out how these bikes roll. Aside from not having lights and a bell, it seemed to do very well! I'm definitely getting used to it. I even rode it to work today, bought a new bell at the bike shop, and I'm ready! I do get a lot of looks for sure!
Now, if we can only get the weather to cooperate.

Sunny Cool Sunday
Seawall? Nah. Let's go to the EAST SIDE...
Okay, so I got the call from Charles and Joe at around 11 or so to be at the park for 1 PM... I couldn't say no to that! What a day! It was gorgeous...
Took off from Crab park and did the normal Strathcona park run where we met up with Walter.
From there we went up, up and more up.... to the sites and sounds of Commercial drive to stop for a bit of food and bevvies to go. On to Trout Lake, had a bit of a stop where we had a couple of pops out on the dock... also very fun.
From there we ended up at the graveyard for a stop...
Back down the hills, where we stopped in at the Whip (http://thewhiprestaurant.com/) for a quick drink and a snack before everyone dispersed... and me back down to the seawall... eventually ending up in the North shore at Raglan's with Charles and Walter. All in all a good day.

Icy!
Take it easy on the roads today...
Just got into work after riding in from the seawall...
LOTS of ice on the road today, not just ice but black ice too... nobody has sprinkled salt or anything down yet...
Super windy last night... Couldn't walk straight, and I didn't even drink... :S
Also, I may be able to make the Friday ride after all. Weather is supposed to be all good for two weeks! Schweet.

Sunday random ride
Today's impromtu ride.
Wow, I gotta say thanks to Bryn and the guys for the really cool ride we went on today. It was an all day excursion from deep in gastown all the way up to Trout lake, through to 43rd and Fraser and back downtown via the way of Burrard street Bridge. Fantastic. I could go for a few of those rides to get the old turkey and gravy out of the system from the holidays.
I was actually just cycling through gastown when some of the lads asked me if I wanted to come along to a ride... no problem! I could go for a little ride...
I did take a couple of snaps of that ride, I'll have to submit those when I can find my laptop cable. Anyway, thanks again guys! It will probably be not this Friday, but the Friday after - I should be able to make i then. I hope.

I was going to do this a while ago...
... but I didn't get the chance.
I am completely into the cruiser bike thing now. I now have two bikes, which are both just amazing. One wasn't enough. I go to work and back on one that is more geared for the rain, and the other... well... it's for the dry, sunny days which might be spring now. Many thanks to Bryn for building this, and for Rod who organizes the rides. I went on my first ride last month and it was really fun, albeit a little cool. Good times. Looking forward to the next one! Cheers...
