Midnight Full moon cruise down Cypress

Posted by rollercam at April 08. 2009

I went on one of these about 7 years ago with the guys from John Henry, I would really like to duplicate the experience. I know it would be a hassle to arrange transport up the mountain but it was a freaking blast coming down with the full moon.  I am not sure if the road is open all night or any other logistical problems but who is in or wants to help out?

Yeah, I don't think anyone has done one for a long while now...  I think I remember seeing an old ride flyer that had something on it, but that would have been at least 4 years ago now...

Pretty sure the road is open all night... I've driven up there kinda late before with a telescope to see the stars.  Never encountered anything...  Be good to get some of Rod's crew together who used to run it and find out how they got it all done.

Got in touch with some people who've done the ride before... Apparently there IS security at the bottom and a gate to get past... They managed to "convince" the guard to let them through in previous years...

If Cypress is locked after hours I know we could use Mount Seymour here in North Van.  Theres a parking lot at the top which is open at all hours and I imagine the ride down would be comparable to Cypress.  I take my MR2 up there all the time in the summer for quick sprints.

As for transport I have a half ton pickup, if someone had one of those Dakine tail gate covers to lend me that would bring 4 bikes to the top without hassle.  Not sure how we'd work the logistics of driving up and down though...
